Un texte puissant interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 par un com\u00e9dien qui ne l\u2019est pas moins Oscar Van Rompay. Dans un entretien avec le journaliste litt\u00e9raire Bernard Magnier, le com\u00e9dien flamand \u00e9voque le point de d\u00e9part de cette cr\u00e9ation, la fascination de Peter Verhelst pour sa double vie. Com\u00e9dien en Belgique, il appartient \u00e0 la compagnie NTGent, Oscar Van Rompay est aussi exploitant agricole au Kenya o\u00f9 il poss\u00e8de une plantation. Depuis plus de dix ans, il partage sa vie \u00a0entre ces deux continents, entre ces deux terres, entre ces deux cultures.<\/strong><\/h4><p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\">Sorte d\u2019autofiction, <\/span><em style=\"font-weight: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\">Africa<\/em><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\"> met en lumi\u00e8re \u00ab\u00a0la situation quasi-schizophr\u00e9nique\u00a0\u00bb (comme la nomme le com\u00e9dien lui-m\u00eame), qu\u2019il entretient par ses allers-retours dans ses deux pays. Les \u00e9changes entre Oscar Van Rompay et Peter Verhelst ont donn\u00e9 le jour \u00e0 un texte d\u2019une danse densit\u00e9. Un texte o\u00f9 l\u2019exp\u00e9rience de vie du com\u00e9dien devient une mati\u00e8re brute pour traiter de l\u2019alt\u00e9rit\u00e9, de la diff\u00e9rence, que l\u2019on pense parfois t\u00e9nue et accessible, ou encore gigantesque et ind\u00e9passable, mais aussi de la mani\u00e8re d\u2019\u00eatre soi \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger, d\u2019\u00eatre \u00e9tranger \u00e0\/et dans son pays d\u2019origine comme dans celui qu\u2019on a \u00e9lu. Au travers de cette vie exceptionnelle et personnelle, <\/span><em style=\"font-weight: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\">Africa<\/em><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\"> aborde nombre de questions touchant \u00e0 notre humanit\u00e9 et \u00e0 la fa\u00e7on dont elle s\u2019exprime dans la rencontre avec l\u2019autre.<\/span><\/p><p>Pour mettre en sc\u00e8ne cette derni\u00e8re, l\u2019auteur et le com\u00e9dien ont scind\u00e9 la pi\u00e8ce en deux parties.\u00a0<span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\">La premi\u00e8re met \u00e0 nu le com\u00e9dien et son africanit\u00e9 \u00e0 travers son corps (nombreuses sont les choses qui passent en premier lieu par le corps et ce d\u2019autant plus sur le continent africain), ce qu\u2019il a re\u00e7u et continue de recevoir de ses s\u00e9jours au Kenya. La deuxi\u00e8me partie met \u00e0 nu le com\u00e9dien et son europ\u00e9anit\u00e9 \u00e0 travers sa parole r\u00e9citante. Pour chacune de ces parties le com\u00e9dien passe par une transformation. Et c\u2019est \u00e0 vue que s\u2019op\u00e8rent les m\u00e9tamorphoses. Qu\u2019il soit nu recouvert d\u2019une peinture noire, de terre, ou encore v\u00eatu d\u2019un jean, sweat et baskets, baignant dans l\u2019eau, le corps d\u2019Oscar Van Rompay prend diff\u00e9rentes couleurs, s\u2019approprie ses identit\u00e9s multiples. Incarnant incroyablement le mouvement qui le conduit vers l\u2019autre.<\/span><\/p><p>Dans la premi\u00e8re partie, l\u2019espace sonore et visuel est foisonnant. Les mati\u00e8res, les couleurs, un n\u00e9on vert, de la peinture noire, rouge, jaune, de la terre ocre, une pomme de douche m\u00e9tallique, des plantes, mais aussi une voix off, des bruits d\u2019enfants, de nature au petit soir, ou encore la musique de Magic syst\u00e8me, plongent le spectateur en Afrique. Qu\u2019il parle le swahili, le fran\u00e7ais, le flamand ou l\u2019anglais Oscar Van Rompay endosse les identit\u00e9s des personnes qu\u2019ils croisent sur son chemin, se fait conteur, donne de la voix \u00e0 cet univers entre r\u00eave et r\u00e9alit\u00e9.<\/p><p>Dans la deuxi\u00e8me partie, l\u2019espace sonore et visuel est d\u00e9pouill\u00e9. Plateau et spectateurs sont en lumi\u00e8re. Au bord de sc\u00e8ne, le com\u00e9dien s\u2019adresse au public directement et lui fait part de ses exp\u00e9riences, de ses allers-retours, des r\u00e9actions de ses amis belges et kenyans, de ses questions auxquelles il pensait avoir r\u00e9pondu, de celles restant en suspend. Il analyse, r\u00e9fl\u00e9chit, glisse son amour, ses doutes, ses d\u00e9sirs, ses col\u00e8res et ses peurs face \u00e0 d\u2019autres fa\u00e7ons de faire, de voir, de dire. Ses mots sont ponctu\u00e9s de silences, de regards adress\u00e9s aux spectateurs, de retours sur soi. L\u2019expression de son humanit\u00e9 le rend \u00e0 la fois fragile et puissant.<\/p><p>Dr\u00f4le, lucide, introspective, la parole d\u2019Oscar Van Rompay chemine vers l\u2019autre et son lot de diff\u00e9rences et d\u2019interrogations. Port\u00e9s par sa pr\u00e9sence les spectateurs prennent eux aussi la voie de l\u2019alt\u00e9rit\u00e9.
