Que signifie habiter son propre poids ? Comment vivre dans un corps soumis \u00e0 la gravit\u00e9 tout en r\u00eavant de s&rsquo;en affranchir ? Entre performance physique, installation plastique et r\u00eaverie chor\u00e9graphique, le chor\u00e9graphe construit une pi\u00e8ce qui, sous son apparente simplicit\u00e9, d\u00e9ploie une r\u00e9flexion subtile sur la condition m\u00eame du danseur \u2013 et peut-\u00eatre, plus largement, sur la condition humaine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">D\u00e8s l&rsquo;entr\u00e9e, quelque chose r\u00e9siste. Le corps appara\u00eet v\u00eatu d&rsquo;un costume orange saumon dont les motifs prolongent ceux des trois grandes \u0153uvres suspendues au fond du plateau sign\u00e9es <strong>Alice Vasseur<\/strong>. Le danseur semble surgir de la peinture elle-m\u00eame, comme si Alice Vasseur avait donn\u00e9 naissance \u00e0 une figure momentan\u00e9ment d\u00e9tach\u00e9e de ses monotypes. Cette fusion entre le d\u00e9cor et l&rsquo;interpr\u00e8te constitue l&rsquo;une des id\u00e9es les plus f\u00e9condes de la pi\u00e8ce : le corps n&rsquo;est jamais s\u00e9par\u00e9 de l&rsquo;espace qu&rsquo;il habite ; il en est l&rsquo;\u00e9manation, le prolongement ou parfois le fant\u00f4me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le premier mouvement surprend par son refus de l&rsquo;accomplissement. Tout semble vouloir partir : courir, bondir, acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer. Pourtant rien n&rsquo;advient compl\u00e8tement. Les gestes s&rsquo;interrompent avant leur terme. Les impulsions sont coup\u00e9es dans leur \u00e9lan. Les bras se plient l\u00e0 o\u00f9 ils devraient s&rsquo;ouvrir. Les jambes semblent oublier leur destination. Il y a dans cette danse une forme de b\u00e9gaiement physique, comme si le corps d\u00e9couvrait laborieusement ses propres possibilit\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cette \u00e9criture du mouvement contrari\u00e9 est d&rsquo;autant plus frappante qu&rsquo;elle dialogue avec une composition au piano continue, fluide, presque romantique. L\u00e0 o\u00f9 la partition d\u00e9roule ses phrases avec naturel, le corps h\u00e9site, se bloque, recommence. Le contraste est saisissant. Le chor\u00e9graphe-interpr\u00e8te oppose \u00e0 la logique m\u00e9lodique une logique de l&rsquo;obstacle. Le mouvement ne coule pas ; il n\u00e9gocie son existence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tr\u00e8s vite appara\u00eet le v\u00e9ritable sujet de la pi\u00e8ce : la gravit\u00e9. Non pas seulement la gravit\u00e9 physique, mais cette force plus vaste qui attire chaque ambition vers le sol. Dans les s\u00e9quences acrobatiques, le danseur joue avec les \u00e9quilibres pr\u00e9caires, les chutes, les d\u00e9saxements. Son corps athl\u00e9tique poss\u00e8de manifestement toutes les ressources n\u00e9cessaires pour s&rsquo;\u00e9lever. Pourtant la chor\u00e9graphie semble constamment rappeler que toute ascension contient d\u00e9j\u00e0 sa chute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">C&rsquo;est alors qu&rsquo;intervient le moment le plus intelligent de la construction dramaturgique. Une voix enfantine et malicieuse \u00e9nonce simplement : <em>\u00ab Je marche. Je saute. Je tombe. \u00bb <\/em>Trois verbes seulement.. Trois actions fondamentales. Toute l&rsquo;histoire de la danse pourrait presque tenir dans cette triade. Marcher : l&rsquo;organisation du d\u00e9placement humain. Sauter : le r\u00eave de vaincre la pesanteur. Tomber : la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 du corps terrestre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00c0 partir de ces trois mots, Thibault engage un jeu de permutations qui constitue le c\u0153ur de la pi\u00e8ce. D&rsquo;abord illustratives, les actions se combinent progressivement jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 devenir mati\u00e8re chor\u00e9graphique pure. La marche contient d\u00e9j\u00e0 la chute. Le saut pr\u00e9pare la retomb\u00e9e. La chute elle-m\u00eame devient un rebond possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ce qui est remarquable ici n&rsquo;est pas tant l&rsquo;inventivit\u00e9 des combinaisons que l&rsquo;engagement absolu de l&rsquo;interpr\u00e8te. Peu \u00e0 peu, la pi\u00e8ce prend la forme d&rsquo;un d\u00e9fi que le danseur semble s&rsquo;adresser \u00e0 lui-m\u00eame. Grands jet\u00e9s, tours, courses, man\u00e8ges : toute la technique accumul\u00e9e au fil des ann\u00e9es affleure \u00e0 la surface du mouvement. Mais contrairement \u00e0 tant de pi\u00e8ces contemporaines qui exhibent la virtuosit\u00e9 comme une preuve de valeur, <em>Terre I<\/em> montre la technique en train de s&rsquo;\u00e9puiser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le spectacle devient alors moins une d\u00e9monstration qu&rsquo;une exp\u00e9rience de r\u00e9sistance. L\u2019homme au plateau ne danse pas pour montrer ce qu&rsquo;il sait faire (et tr\u00e8s bien faire). Il danse pour d\u00e9couvrir jusqu&rsquo;o\u00f9 son corps peut continuer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dans cette progression vers l&rsquo;\u00e9puisement appara\u00eet quelque chose d&rsquo;\u00e9tonnamment enfantin. On retrouve l&rsquo;esprit du jeu, cette mani\u00e8re propre aux enfants de r\u00e9p\u00e9ter une action simplement pour voir ce qu&rsquo;elle produit lorsqu&rsquo;on la pousse \u00e0 son extr\u00eame limite. Le danseur ressemble parfois \u00e0 une marionnette, parfois \u00e0 un sportif, parfois \u00e0 un enfant absorb\u00e9 par une exp\u00e9rience dont lui-m\u00eame ignore l&rsquo;issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les stroboscopes envahissent alors l&rsquo;espace. L&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re devient celle d&rsquo;une f\u00eate nocturne ou d&rsquo;une transe collective. Pourtant, m\u00eame dans cette mont\u00e9e \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique, quelque chose demeure fragile. Le corps continue de n\u00e9gocier avec ses limites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Puis survient l&rsquo;image la plus myst\u00e9rieuse de la pi\u00e8ce. Allong\u00e9 au sol, la t\u00eate reposant sur un ballon gonfl\u00e9 \u00e0 l&rsquo;h\u00e9lium, le danseur semble enfin abandonner la lutte. Lorsque le ballon s&rsquo;\u00e9l\u00e8ve, c&rsquo;est comme si une part invisible du personnage quittait soudain la sc\u00e8ne. L&rsquo;image est simple, presque na\u00efve, mais elle ouvre brusquement une autre lecture de l&rsquo;ensemble. Et si nous n&rsquo;avions pas assist\u00e9 \u00e0 une performance ? Et si nous avions assist\u00e9 \u00e0 un r\u00eave ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cette hypoth\u00e8se trouve un \u00e9cho profond dans le travail plastique d&rsquo;Alice Vasseur. Ses monotypes peupl\u00e9s de formes flottantes, de silhouettes ambigu\u00ebs et de pr\u00e9sences incertaines installent un univers o\u00f9 les fronti\u00e8res entre le corps, le paysage et le nuage deviennent poreuses. Comme dans ses \u0153uvres, les figures de <em>Terre I<\/em> apparaissent puis se dissolvent. Rien n&rsquo;est jamais totalement d\u00e9fini.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lorsque l&rsquo;une des toiles tombe finalement du plafond et recouvre le danseur, la transformation est saisissante. Le corps virtuose dispara\u00eet. Ne subsiste qu&rsquo;une forme indistincte rampant lentement sous le tissu. L&rsquo;athl\u00e8te devient masse. La pr\u00e9cision devient brouillard. La ma\u00eetrise devient abandon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cette image agit comme le n\u00e9gatif de l&rsquo;ouverture du spectacle. Au commencement, le corps surgissait de la peinture. \u00c0 pr\u00e9sent, il y retourne. Entre ces deux moments s&rsquo;est d\u00e9ploy\u00e9 tout un parcours : celui d&rsquo;un \u00eatre qui aura tent\u00e9 de s&rsquo;arracher \u00e0 la gravit\u00e9 avant de r\u00e9int\u00e9grer doucement le monde du songe. La derni\u00e8re course sur place r\u00e9sume admirablement cette tension. Le danseur acc\u00e9l\u00e8re jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 l&rsquo;absurde. Son corps se penche dangereusement vers l&rsquo;avant. On croit assister \u00e0 l&rsquo;effondrement imminent d&rsquo;un organisme arriv\u00e9 au bout de ses ressources. Mais les lumi\u00e8res s&rsquo;\u00e9teignent avant la chute. Lorsqu&rsquo;elles reviennent, il est l\u00e0, debout, souriant, presque intact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">C&rsquo;est peut-\u00eatre l\u00e0 que r\u00e9side la v\u00e9ritable r\u00e9ussite de <em>Terre I<\/em>. La pi\u00e8ce parle d&rsquo;\u00e9puisement sans \u00eatre tragique. Elle parle de gravit\u00e9 sans \u00eatre pesante. Elle parle de virtuosit\u00e9 sans c\u00e9der au narcissisme technique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sous ses allures de performance physique, elle compose en r\u00e9alit\u00e9 une m\u00e9ditation d\u00e9licate sur notre \u00e9trange condition terrestre : nous passons notre temps \u00e0 vouloir nous \u00e9lever, tout en sachant que nous sommes faits pour tomber.
